Chris Montez (1966) Call Me 7″
This record was donated to the blog by our long time friend Michael. Usually Michael takes over the writing for the records he has donated but, this year, he’s quite a busy fellow so, I will attempt to write something enjoyable and informative (I know, I know, I’ve never managed to write anything enjoyable and informative before, what makes me think I’ll do it this time?). “Call Me” is a song written by Michael Hatch and was first recorded by Petula Clark. At the suggestion of his producer Herb Alpert, Chris Montez recorded the song for his first A&M album that was entitled ‘Time After Time’. Released as a single, the track fared well on the charts becoming his 4th Top 40 hit. Montez still performs to this day, you can learn more about the man and his music at his website. The 7″ singles that Michael has provided in the past have been very hard to find, if at all, on CD or digital format. I believe this single version is another vinyl-only tune that Michael has been unable to track down in any digital format.
