David Lee Roth (1994) She’s My Machine EU 7″
“She’s My Machine” was the first track on David Lee Roth’s 1994 album ‘Your Filthy Little Mouth’ and was the lead single released from the album. It reached #12 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in the spring of 1994. The LP version of “She’s My Machine” was the version released on the single but, the neat thing about this record was the inclusion of a non-album track on the b-side. Roth and his band laid down a bluesy version of “Mississippi Power”, a song credited to Preston Sturges as the writer. Sturges was an American playwright, screenwriter, and film director who died in 1959. I found other songwriting credits for Sturges such as Barry Manilow’s “Another Life” and more songs by David Lee Roth like “Big Train”, “Hammerhead Shark” and “Sensible Shoes”. More info on Sturges can be found in a 2010 article at Vanity Fair written by Douglas McGrath. “Mississippi Power” was only released on CD as a bonus track in Japan.
