Graham Parker And The Shot (1985) Wake Up (Next To You) 12″ Promo

Very Brief:
Here is probably the only song by Graham Parker that I know (and I like it very much). This promo 12″ features the LP Version and an edit version of “Wake Up (Next To You)”, the only US Top 40 hit Parker ever enjoyed.

I thought Mercury Poisoning was a Top 40 as well for Graham Parker..although his band then was The Rumour.

I show no record of “Mercury Poisoning” even hitting the Hot 100. “Wake Up (Next To You)”, “Life Gets Better” and “Hold Back The Night” are the only 3 songs of Parker’s to hit the Hot 100. No song with the title “Mercury Poisoning” is listed as ever hitting the Hot 100. I used the Billboard Pop ME spreadsheet for my research.

        Ah.

You’re right. Hold Back The Night hit #58 in 1976. Mercury Poisoning was a promo only B Side, and from what I’d read a scathing take on his Mercury Records years. There’s also mention of Atlantic Records but not if anything was ever released…just that his parting from Atlantic wasn’t very friendly.
