Very Brief:
The second of 3 Prince-penned singles released from ‘Martika’s Kitchen’ did not fare as well as its predecessor.  The title track from the album spent only 2 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.  It did do a little better in the UK reaching #17 and in Australia getting to #29.  The highlight of this 12″ is the Prince mix of “Love… Thy Will Be Done”.  The lowlight is Tony M. rapping on the Alt. Dub Version 😉

Martika’s Kitchen had a moderate chart success in France too, but often went on radio airplay. I really like this song because it reminds me of the spirit of a Serge Gainsbourg song : “Les Sucettes à l’Anis” 🙂 if you read the lyrics on the first degree there is nothing wrong, but most of the sentences have a double meaning.

re: Tony M: I’m not afraid to edit that turd out of music. I edited him about 98% out of Diamonds and Pearls and O(+>, and they’re 100% better records for it. I’ve edited quite a few Prince tunes here and there because of the messy fluff in them. I have a feeling I’ll be editing him out of this one, too.

The gem here though, is Prince’s mix of “Love… Thy Will B Done”. But for me, nothing beats the NPG rock mix.
