Mica Paris (1991) If I Love U 2 Nite UK 12″ Promo

Very Brief:
Today we feature a highly sought after 12″ from Mica Paris and her recording of Prince’s “If I Love U 2 Nite”. But, “wait a minute” you might say… “haven’t you already posted two 12″ releases of this from Mica Paris?” Yes, here and here. “So, why post another record, there aren’t any different mixes of Mica’s version on this record?” Well, yeah, you’re basically right, there’s nothing new from Mica on this record that wasn’t already posted before. And, not taking anything away from Mica’s performance of the song, it is quite good, the real highlight of this record isn’t Mica. It’s Prince. Supposedly by mistake, Prince’s recording of “If I Love U 2 Nite” (I am assuming it is the 1987 recording that was sent to Mica?) was included on this promo 12″ as the LP Mix, but not credited to Prince. From info at Princevault, initial tracking for Prince’s original version (called “If I Love You Tonight”) took place between 10-21 July 1979 at Mountain Ears Sound Studio, Boulder, CO, USA, during sessions for The Rebels. Prince re-recorded the song entirely in July 1987 during his first recording sessions at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA. This version was submitted to Mica Paris for her consideration. So, it seems, their “mistake” is our gain, enjoy!

Did you know about this mistake when you bought the vinyl, or did you find out afterwards?

    OMG! What a find!!!

Thanks for sharing this incredible gem.

I love this record by Mica – it’s such a rarity a related artist actually did justice to a tune.

I’ve just given this my first listen – absolutely incredible and an awesome piece of Prince history.

I like the demo feel to the track. I can imagine Prince being in the studio playing all the parts and doing a rough mix before sending it off.

You’re doing some great work here. The last 2 uploads are failing on me during unzipping. I have used both 7zip and WinRAR and it seem that the password is incorrect. Thanks for looking into this. All other uploads are fine.

Not sure what to do to help ya here buddy, seems the others are able to unpack the file so, no password problems. Have you attempted to download again? Perhaps the download corrupted in the transfer?

I do not know the legal issues about this recording but I can clearly recognize some samples stolen from Depeche Mode!
