The New Power Generation (1998) Come On 12″ Promo

Very Brief:
“Come On” comes from the last New Power Generation album entitled ‘Newpower Soul’. This promo 12″ release on NPG Records features four remixes of the track along with an album edit and Acapella. Also included (disappointingly) is a remix edit of “The One” that runs around 2:15. It is basically just faded out after 2:15, not really an edit in the proper sense. To combat this disappointment, I have included a CD rip of the full 7:09 remix of “The One” as a bonus track.

I massively loved the New Power Soul album – totally exceptional. I thought this period of Prince music was very exciting indeed! Come On blew me away. Played loud on a good system it is incredible. This tune is so funky that it kinda takes you along with it – probably due to the repetitive catchy beat.

Just like most of Prince’s less commercially successful tracks, this still sounds fresh today.

    Many thanks!

Thanks Richie, never heard these. Your blog is in my daily routine. Always curious what you will share with us!

I’ve always felt that the Newpower Soul album was the last by the Prince before he got totally converted by Larry.

The album reminds me a lot of the Controversy album. No real message; just a bunch of fun party songs and a couple of classics. Come On is a stone cold classic, as is The One.

I also feel that given a few more years, Prince would have reconciled with his older self. No, I wouldn’t want to hear a sixty year-old man singing about pussy and jizz, but I feel like he’d have become more comfortable to the idea of remasters for nostalgia’s sake. You only have to listen to Stare to realise that he was nearly there.

    Anyway. Thanks for this.
