I often gush about shopping for records at Wax ‘n Facts in Atlanta, GA but, that’s not the only place in the ATL that I hit when record shopping. I found this record in the bins at Fantasyland Records on Pharr Road sometime last year. I wasn’t familiar with it at all and had never heard of the album it came from: ‘Discoballs: A Tribute To Pink Floyd’. But, I took a look at the labels and saw that it was Pink Floyd songs and a disco mix to boot! I quickly added it to the records I was going to take to the checkout counter. Once I got the record on the turntable, I was not disappointed, very nice disco orchestrations of two classic Pink Floyd songs. Some online searches reveal that the entire album received good reviews from many different sites/bloggers/etc. Might have to locate a copy of the CD that was reissued in 2008 for my collection.
We now return to our regularly scheduled programming…
Here’s a record I found recently whilst flipping through record bins and getting my fingers dusty. When this record hit the charts in 1977, I was almost 12 years old. So, you’ll pardon me if I wasn’t previously aware of the existence of a 12″ version. It’s always a pleasant surprise to run across a record like this, a disco version of a song I’ve liked and happily listened to for many years. Getting to hear a record like this for the first time after more than 35 years since its release is quite fun and nostalgic. I hope you enjoy it also.
